Remove spyware with System Mechanic's Spython (1 versions piégées )
|
 | | | "Ron Slater [iolo technologies, LLC]" ( 11-03-2005 22:57:58 ) | Hello secarum,
Spyware is a new, dangerous, and rapidly growing computer threat that most antivirus tools don't detect. It infects your computer either by masquerading as useful software that you can download over the Internet, or by secretly installing itself. Once installed, spyware parasites typically collect as much information as possible about you and your computing habits, and secretly send this information to marketing companies over the Internet. These marketing companies then use this personal data to send you advertisements as popups, or sell your data to others. It is even possible for someone to use this data to steal your identity.
Common symptoms of spyware include excessive popup advertisements, unfamiliar toolbars in your browser, system or program crashes or errors, or even a redirection of your browser’s starting (home) page without your permission.
This parasitic software may be installed without your knowledge when you visit certain websites, install programs (particularly those downloaded from the Internet), or open infected documents. It may even be installed by way of a system vulnerability simply because you connected to the Internet in the first place. System Mechanic's Spython tool protects you from these threats to your security and privacy.
To see if your computer is infected with spyware, following these steps:
1. Start System Mechanic by double-clicking on its corresponding "toolbox" icon located within the Windows desktop.
2. Navigate to the "Protect" tab, and then select the tool labeled "Eliminate Spyware". The Spython dashboard will appear. Select the "Start Spython Wizard" option.
3. The Spython wizard will appear. It is always a good idea to check for new parasite definitions as we are constantly adding new spyware. Select the button labeled "Download new parasite definitions". When the definitions are updated, select "Next".
4. To ensure that default options are set, select the option labeled "List any found parasites for individual inspection and removal. and then ensure that the box labeled "Display parasite summary upon scan completion" is checked.
5. Select the button labeled "Scan" to begin scanning for spyware parasite infections. The scan will commence, and shouldn't take more than a minute to complete.
6. If any parasites are detected on your computer, a summary report will be displayed indicating the number and classification of these items. Select "OK" to close this report window and access the parasite removal interface. If no parasites are found, a message indicating so will be displayed and the Spython tool may be closed.
7. If parasites are detected, your first instinct may be anger, followed by curiosity with regards to how they arrived on your system. The truth is that you most likely inadvertently "allowed" them to infect your computer by installing "free" software that came secretly bundled with spyware. The "free" software manufacturer will get paid for every spyware parasite that is installed with their product. Money is surreptitiously generated by the spyware manufacturers because they now have control over your system and can force-feed advertisements and offers to you at will. Spyware makers get paid by advertisers to feed demographically targeted ads and offers to unsuspected computer users who are infected by their spyware. This is just one of the various ways PC parasites operate -- some spyware parasites are much more ruthless and viral. Just remember: When installing software, there's no such thing as a free lunch!
8. To remove all parasites, select the button labeled "Show all". Next, select the button labeled "Remove", and then select the option labeled "Remove all displayed parasites". Removal shouldn't take more than a few seconds.
9. Once your system is parasite-free, you may close the Spython tool.
Tips for staying spyware-free:
a) Don't install "free" software. Any product that doesn't appear to cost any money is somehow generating enough money to support its developers, marketers, business owners, and all other elements that go along with the creation and maintenance of any product within any business model. People don't work for free, so the money has to come from somewhere. Unfortunately, in most cases this money comes through loads of unsolicited advertising via clandestine spyware infection.
b) Configure System Mechanic's Spython tool to run automatically on set intervals using the Scheduled Maintenance tool. To access System Mechanic's Scheduled Maintenance too, navigate to the "Maintain" tab on System Mechanic's main screen, and then select the "Scheduled Maintenance" tool option.

Over time, the database that Windows and other applications use to store information (the "Registry") can begin to hold data that is no longer valid or has become obsolete. Such information can range from a reference to a file that no longer exists, to a driver that Windows is attempting to load each time you start your machine (resulting in system crashes, or worse). This invalid data also eventually begins to clutter your Registry, slowing Windows down and causing other problems.
The Registry is not normally an inviting (let alone safe) place to be spelunking unless you are a seasoned PC guru, and even then the process of locating legitimately invalid or corrupted data is be tedious at best. The Registry is also one of the most common places for "mysterious" PC problems to lurk –- you know, the kind of crashes that seem to know when you’re working on something important, and then decide to blind-side you right before you save your work!
With System Mechanic, cleansing and optimizing the Registry is a safe and easy process.
Here’s how:
1. Start System Mechanic by double-clicking its corresponding icon on your desktop, which appears as a red toolbox labeled "System Mechanic".
2. Select the "Fix Registry Problems" option located on the "Fix" tab.
3. Select the "Fix, Clean, and Optimize the Registry" option.
3. The various locations of the Registry are listed on this tool’s main tab labeled "Locations". For more information about these sections, select the button labeled "Help" from the right side of the window. When you are finished, select the "Next" button.
4. The options tab allows you to specify excluded parts of the Registry from the scan. Select the "Search" button to continue.
5. The Registry Cleaner will start scanning each section of the Registry. This process can range from about 10 seconds to several minutes, depending on the speed of your machine as well as the extent at which your Registry is cluttered. Once the process is complete, a button labeled "Remove" will appear on a toolbar above any invalid references listed. The items listed are links in the Registry to specific bits and pieces of your system, like files, drivers, fonts, etc., which no longer exist in the referenced location. Further, by removing these Registry references, you are not physically removing files from your system –- you are only removing the clutter and erroneous items from Windows’ database of information.
5. To remove a reference, select it with your mouse, then select the button labeled "Remove", and finally choose the option labled "Remove selected entries". To remove all references, select the button labeled "Remove" and then select the option labeled "Remove All Entries". As a safety measure, all actions you perform at this time are saved as undo-information which may be accessed under the tab labeled "Undo Information".
